Critical Situation - Seasons Drafting

Seasons was one of last year's hits of Gen Con and the latter part of the year.  Asmodee put together a gorgeous looking game that appealed to many gamers with mechanics like drafting, resource management, giant dice with unique symbols on them, and of course, cute little zombie bunnies.

Thinking about what game to use for the next Critical Situation, Seasons jumped straight to the forefront of my brain.  I remembered researching Seasons online, since I wasn't able to get it at Gen Con, and reading the same thing over and over again, "When you play the first time, use the pre-constructed decks, then as you get comfortable, implement the draft."  The problem I had, was no one seemed to talk about what the challenges were with drafting, what cards were good, when, mechanics, and the whole lot.

So, I'm happy to bring you this week's Critical Situation, focused on the Prelude, the drafting portion of Seasons. In our video this week, we'll do a random two player draft, and then talk about which cards we could use in which years, and why.  This is though, just the beginning of the conversation.  We want to hear from you on these Critical Situations.  What would you have drafted and why?  Which cards would you choose for which year and why?

Leave a comment below, on our YouTube channel, or on Facebook, Twitter, or Google + of course!  We love to hear from everyone and look forward to the discussion around Seasons drafting!

Critical Preview - Euphoria: Build a Better Dystopia

Last year we had the opportunity to do a review of a game called Viticulture: the Strategic Game of Winemaking from Stonemaier Games.  This was a Kickstarter game using traditional Worker Placement that we gave a hit to and had a good amount of fun playing.

Today, we have a preview for another Kickstarter project from Stonemaier Gamer, also a Worker Placement game, but one that's not so traditional, called Euphoria: Build a Better Dystopia. In Euphoria, dice will be used for workers, which in a game, you can only have a maximum of 4, but beware, this is a dystopian society, and if your workers gain too much knowledge about their environment, they will escape and flee!

Below is an unpaid preview for the game, based on a prototype copy provided to us by Stonemaier Games.  If you would like to see more about this project, you can check it out on Kickstarter or at Stonemaier Games main homepage.

Critical Strikes - Fish, Zombies, and Fantasy Football!

This week we have another episode of our Critical Strikes.  These are videos where we'll review three games all in one video, giving each a "micro review" if you will.  Crits, Hits and Misses are all eligible, and this week, we have a massive span of themes coming at you!

This week, we'll be looking at Salmon Run from Gryphon Games, If I'm Going Down from VanRyder Games, and Blood Bowl Team Manager the Card Game's Sudden Death expansion from Fantasy Flight Games!  That's right, we're going fishing, killing zombies, and scoring touchdowns all in a short amount of time!

Between deck building, a game you can't durvive at no matter how hard you try and elves, knights, and vampires playing football, this episode of Critical Strikes looks to scratch some kind of gaming itch you may have!
