GEN CON 2012 - A Critical Overview!

Every year gamers from around the world invade downtown Indianapolis, Indiana to experience what truly is, "The best four days in gaming" and this year was no different!  Well, ok, it was a bit different for me, but for the masses, it was as fun as it ever was!

Why was it different for me?  This was the first Gen Con I was going to where I wasn't volunteering somewhere, and it was the first one where Mrs. Tox was joining me as well! As you can imagine, being a geek is one thing, being a geek around your wife is another, and being a geek around your wife while surrounded by 40 thousand other geeks is a whole new ball game!

That said, Mrs. Tox survived on her own quite well!  In fact, I think half my life savings were spent on geeky t-shirts she wanted!  That not-withstanding, she held her own gaming as well!  More on that in a bit though!

Critical Review - Omen: Master the Elements

This week we have a game you may never have seen before!  While perusing The Game Crafter's site a few months ago, I came across a game that was so eye-catching, I had to reach out to the designer!  IT was called Omen: Master the Elements and from first glance, all I could think was, "Wow, I need to play this game!"

Most artwork you'll find on smaller, independent games, is good, but not very high quality.  This is not a bad thing at all, it's just very rarely does an independent game get the "eye-candy" moniker.  Omen immediately does!

However, just having a good look only takes you so far!  Is it a good game?  Is it fun?  Does it provide a great experience when you sit down to play it?  Heck, with all these pictures and so little wording, is it even easy to play or understand?  Fear not faithful readers, your questions will be answered, if not in the video, in our blog today, as we venture into our Wizard's Castle, and attempt to master the elements in Omen!

Kickstarter - Dragon's Bard

Kickstarter is a goldmine for gamers, whether you are a player, designer, or just a plain old fan.  Sure, it has it's pitfalls, like any other investment engine, however there are many great designers, artists, and honestly, pretty darn good marketers, bringing you their creations for your consumption on a daily basis there.

With that in mind, I give you, Dragon's Bard.  As a disclaimer, I have not backed this project as of this post but plan on doing so, post the Gen Con spending spree about to critically hit my wallet!

I had the opportunity to meer Erik Dahlman, the Co-CEO and Co-Founder of Albino Dragon and he invited me to playtest this very artistic looking gem.  Its a quick to learn, strategic game of tricks, trumps, and dragons!  Here's our video, with more below...
