Cryptocapcomic!

Cryptozoic announced something pretty big this week.  If you weren't around, or are just too straight laced to have ever set foot in an arcade, aside from pitying you, I now will partake of you, said knowledge.

The Capcom brand is now part of the Cryptozoic family of games, with a Deck Building Game coming up using the Capcom properties!

Yes I know, I just about peed my pants too! This is both excellent news, and something that I must humbly admit, is pretty amazing for Cryptozoic.  When Cryptozoic started it's company up, my honest opinion was this was a bunch of guys and gals escaping Upper Deck and going to give it the "College try" and see what happens. I could not have been more wrong, nor happier to be!

Thunderstone Advance: Unbox with Tox

This weekend I had the pleasure of grabbing a copy of Thunderstone Advance.  Openly and admittedly, I have never played Thunderstone before and all I've heard is THIS is the version to get if that describes you!

So, while we're not ready to give it a full Critical Review just yet, I thought it would be interesting to see what you get, both from a new player's view, but as well as a peek for experienced veterans!  Fret not though, a Critical Review of this one is coming.  After two solid playthroughs and a solo shalacking, we're ready to give it the once over with a critical eye!  In the meantime, here's the unboxing!

Ascension & Nightfall Announcements

Ok, well one is more of an update than an announcement, but let's jump right in as these are both great things to see, hear, and know about!

First up is the announcement that Ascension Storm of Souls will see it's expansion, Immortal Heroes coming this Summer!  Now, while this means great things for Justin Gary, John Fiorillo and the crew at Gary Games, it also means that we may see Storm of Souls on the iOS version of Ascension, not too far behind!

Critical Reviews - Gloom

Wait?  Isn't this supposed to be Locke and Key?  That's what won our Facebook poll right?  Well, yes, you are right, but don't worry!  We have a special surprise in store for all of you, wrapped around the Locke and Key Critical Review, but it will take us a week or so to get it all worked out.  I promise you it is worth it though and you will like it!

In the meantime, I thought it would be good to get another Critical Review up, this time with what I think it is an excellent "filler" game, so what better to "fill" the gap between when our surprise is ready?  May I introduce you to.... Gloom!

Solitaire Ascension

As most of you know, we have our Twitter page up and running again, and a big thank you to all who have connected with us there.  There is a lot of activity happening for only 7 mere days in the Twitterverse, and if you haven't seen it, well, you must be the 10th Dentist as 9 out of 10 recommend it.

I've received a lot of notes on playing Ascension using the Solitaire variant so I thought I would take some time to chat about it here.  I was hoping to provide a video of this as well, but alas dear readers, daemon's from the 18th dimension of Cortaxia have stolen our previous video making machines and made off with them... well, that's another story.

Are you an Ascension iOS snob?

More to the point... am I? What do I mean by this question? Where is this coming from?  Well faithful reader, let us digress and dissect.

First, I openly have been a huge fan of Ascension, ever since it first came into vision.  I had the opportunity to meet and get to know John Fiorillo several times during the height of World of Warcraft Minis and when I learned he was working on this with Justin Gary, well, yes, the Fanboy in me erupted in joy!

Critical Reviews- GOSU: Goblin Supremacy

Every once in a while you find a game that strikes you as "new" only to find out, it's been out for a few years.  You think, "This can't be, it is so cool and so fresh looking... am I loving under a rock?"  This was my experience when I found an article on www.gamehead.com about the GOSU expansion... only to be left asking myself, "how BIG is the rock I'm living under?".  That said, let's take a look... at the game, not the rock.

GOSU is a beautifully rendered game that rewards players for highly skilled planning in both use of your primary resource (the cards in your hand) as well was timing.  It is a card based, hand management game and it pulls itself off very well.

Critical Reviews - 7 Wonders

Jumping right in, whether you are looking at the video below, others online, or pics you see of this game while searching, you can't help but notice it's unique style and artwork. Miguel Coimbra is the credited artist here, and it is a nice, unique touch in the world of collectible card games or deck builders, to have something more artistic than comical. Miguel's artwork brings ancient civilizations to life in your hands and really is the center for this game.  More after the video: (All apologies for some of the focus issues, I'm still learning the camera)

Critical Reviews - RAMPAGE!!!, er, I mean, KING OF TOKYO!!!!

Everyone once in a while, you find a game that is so enjoyable, complex enough to give a challenge yet simple enough for anyone to learn, that it captures your excitement; and King of Tokyo is that wondrous find.  From Iello games and designed by someone rather important in gaming history, let’s take a closer look at this hidden gem of a game.

Unfortunately, we had an excellent video that we completely lost for this one due to technical errors, so I apologize in advance as this is a beautiful game and once that really pops with color!

Critical Reviews - Wrath of Ashardalon

Dungeons and Dragons has always been a bane of my existence.  See, I only ever played the RPG once, and the time I did, I swore up and down to my room mate at the time, he didn't want me playing with his group.  Now to be fair, the group was all my friends too, but I just never did that thing, I was into Magic and only Magic, what can I say, I was a monogamous gamer then.  So after much arguing, I played... and in about 45 minutes I killed two of the major heroes in his storyline, all over $5, yes, really, $5, or maybe it was 5 gold... but, in the end, I abruptly excused myself for eternity.

Critical Reviews - Blood Bowl: Team Mananger

No matter if you are a lover of miniature games, a lover of American Football, or a lover of just plain *good* card games, it's time for us to look at Blood Bowl: Team Manager, the Card Game!

First, in the spirit of full disclosure, I never had a chance to play Blood Bowl, the miniatures game.  I know, boo, hiss. What rock was I living under and how big was it exactly? Digressing, and back to the review... I never played the table top, but I have always heard it was an excellent game and one I need to sit down with before passing through this lovely place.

Making Memories

As most of you know me, I'm an avid, no, rabid gamer.  I love all types of games, from sitting down with a regular deck of cards and playing gin to complex board and card games, to video games (still going through Star Wars: TOR withdrawl from the free beta weekends as I type this).  So, it is with this love of games, I want to share with you a rare gem that I have come across this evening...  Assassin's Creed: Recollection for the iOS (iPad only).

Nightfall... I want to suck... something...

Hi again gang!  Back with another game review.  This one is not so new, and actually has an expansion already out for it, but being that I'm not rich, nor have "the hook ups" to get things ahead of schedule, I'm reviewing as I get them... so, with out further ado... let us delve into the shadows, put on our darkest eyeliner, and toss the Twilight books into the trash as we head into the world of Nightfall!

New Games for Old Friends

Well, while it's been a while, I wanted to take some time to share some new games with you.  While yes, I miss terribly, still play, and PRAY for the day World of Warcraft Minis sees light as a product again, I'm still taking time to play others... with that in mind, I'd like to introduce two games to you, one I've played and one I think looks worth it based on info... sink your teeth in and let me know your thoughts...
